From Tarpon Springs to Everglade City we were struck by several very short but violent tropical rainstorms. A couple of them, like the one in the video, were so bad you couldn't see the car ahead. Believe it or not the blue MG is only a few hundred yards ahead. Luckily a kindly trucker pulled in behind Richard to protect them from being hit from behind.
The mosquitos were just waitng for some new meat, and as not too many people visit here in the summer they decended upon us in clouds. All the houses, restauants(3) and motels(2) have screened in porches and balconies. The first motel we stayed at even had the pool screened in. Then we switched to the other motel, as that one was too restrictive, and found the beds were even worse.
Anyway, we took a great air boat ride and then went on the National Park boat out among the 10,000 Islands.
The tour was guided by a naturalist who pointed out the birds and dolphins. Both trips were a lot of fun and free of mosquitos, so we were glad we braved the bites to stay an extra night.
On the 29th, Happy Birthday Colin, we set off for Florida City, planning to drive out to Flamingo on the coast, but were advised the mosquitos were ten times worse there. Along the road we saw several alligators and a beautiful Anhinga drying his wings.
